Hidden Gift
Hidden Gift is a design that grows. Literally. The car maker's brief was to create a memorable gift for employees to mark a significant milestone – Škoda's new brand vision. The result of the collaboration with BiM is a grow kit, a home planting set, that embodies the essence of the new vision on multiple levels.
Škoda Auto provided unused catalogs from its previous marketing strategy for the production of the gift. We transformed these materials into an adaptable mycelium shell. This innovative packaging not only envelops the grow kit but also replaces traditional single-use alternatives. Once unpacked, the mycelium then serves as a functional part of the product, doubling as a growing substrate for the included seeds.
The product's core, the grow kit encased in mycelium, is 3D-printed using the bio based material NonOilen.
Letting our design literally grow the packaging was a new experience for us. In the case of gift items, we see the involvement of natural and degradable materials, along with the use of waste components, as one of the effective ways to reduce the ecological impact of such products.
