The Homole Melis project is inspired by the historical process of sugar production in the Modřany sugar factory, specifically its typical, but now almost forgotten product - the sugarloaf.

We used this minimalist and timeless loaf shape as inspiration for the design of outdoor furniture and a series of multifunctional objects. The morphology of the designed elements is not only based on the shape of the whole loaf, but also reflects the way in which the sugar was removed from it. These cuts and recesses not only support the visual diversity of the concept, but also allow the objects to be used for rest and active play.

The possible material solutions include recycled concrete, geopolymers, and 3D-printed clay. Recycled concrete can provide a circular option, utilising on-site demolition waste. Geopolymers, which can be made using industrial waste, offer high durability with less CO2 emissions, while the innovative process of 3D printing with clay uses natural materials to enhance overall sustainability of the project.
